The first Order to be established after the Craft in Spain was that of Mark Master Masons and the Grand Lodge in London agreed to consecrate four Mark Lodges. Accordingly, on the 15th November 1991 the four Lodges were Consecrated in Barcelona , the first one being Javea Mark Lodge No. 1688 with its logo the famous Montgo mountain.
On Saturday 21st May 1994 at Hotel Plaza , Madrid , the Most Worshipful Pro-Grand Master, The Rt. Hon. The Lord Swansea, D.L., installed V.W. Bro. Ian Leslie Hutchinson as Grand Inspector for Spain following the Consecration of four new Mark & Ram Lodges.
On the 17th August 1996 at Hotel Melia , Valencia , Right Worshipful Brother John Hale, Deputy Grand Master formed the District Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Spain and installed R.W. Bro. Ian Leslie Hutchinson as the first District Grand Master. The Deputy Grand Master was assisted by R.W. Bro. Peter Glyn Williams, Grand Secretary and V.W. Bro. Col. Keith Hind, Grand Director of Ceremonies.
Since the formation of the District Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Spain further, Mark and Royal Ark Mariner Lodges have been Consecrated so that now we have 20 Mark Lodges and 11 RAM Lodges. There are other Mark and RAM Lodges at the planning stage. This makes the District of Spain the third largest District in the World within the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of England & Wales and its Districts & Lodges Overseas.
R.W. Bro. Ian L. Hutchinson retired as District Grand Master of Spain on the 30th November 2006. W. Bro. Robert L. Munday, PDGSwdB, was installed as the 2nd District Grand Master of Spain on the 13th January 2007 at the Marriott Hotel, La Sella Golf Resort, Denia, Alicante by M.W. Bro. John Hale, ProGM assisted by R.W. Bro. John Brackley, Grand Secretary and R.W. Bro. Michael Masters, Grand Director of Ceremonies and other Officers of Grand Lodge. There were 151 Brethren present on this occasion. |
